Jesus is God himself, he is the part of God that became human. Jesus did not act completely different from God, because he IS God. If the God of the Bible is real, then the only true morality is the standard that he sets, which is based on who he is. If a person did not want to acknowledge God's standard of morality as being the true one, then that person is already saying "I don't want to know you, now or in eternity." The problem in your question is that we are not "good people" according to God's standard. We have all broken his law, and because God is a perfect and just judge, he can't acquit the guilty. That's why he came as Jesus to die as payment for our sins, so that even though we are sinful, we can still know him and be spiritually alive. You are right that people all over the world have fuzzy ideas of what the Bible teaches, and a person might be discouraged by all the people who say that what the Bible teaches is not true, or not good. But there is evidence everywhere that we were created by a creator, even in the intelligent design nature, or of our own selves. And God says that he'll reveal himself to anyone who genuinely wants to know him. So I would encourage you to talk to God, and read your Bible, and you won't have any reason to not know him! If you put it into modern perspective, what would you believe if your next door neighbor claimed to be the son of god and tried to start his own religion. That's exactly what Jesus did. I guess we have the convenience of 2000 years to enforce the belief, but to be truthful the idea has no more credence than if a modern person claimed to be the son of god. I guess you can only answer that if you believe Jesus was/is the son of god.
